Inspiration from sound

Event: The Exhibition of the Supersonix
Date: 23June 2012
Place:
Seminar Room 1 Sackler Centre,
Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) London, The United Kingdom

The Project supersonix was cooperated with organizations such as the Victoria and Albert Museum. The Digital Projects Director at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, Jo Morrison helped staff and students investigated ways in which technologies might support, and potentially change, the process of learning and teaching. Each of the artists had to make an art piece inspired from sound.

The artist Ronnie Chan listened to the soundscape of the V&A’s external courtyard. At the time the pervading sounds came from outside. It seemed as if the walls were being washed. It was powerful, energetic and rhythmic. The sound became a potent memory that inspired his imagination – the picture in his mind was of something missing and something becoming.

Ronnie’s necklace was considered the traces of sound experienced, without a physical presence.
